Тема урока: «Choosing a career. The world of jobs»

Цель урока: развивать навыки монологической речи по теме «Выбор профессии», совершенствовать лексические навыки и расширить лексический запас учащихся.

Задачи урока:

Образовательные: развивать навыки монологической устной и письменной речи; активизировать ранее изученную лексику по теме «Профессия» в устной и письменной речи; развивать навыки умения общаться на английском языке.

Развивающие: развивать интеллектуальные способности учащихся; формировать умение выделять главное, сравнивать и анализировать.

Воспитательные: развивать у учащихся самостоятельность мышления, содействовать профориентации учащихся, формировать потребности в практическом использовании языка.

  1. Introduction. Organizing.

Учитель: Good morning, boys and girls. I'm glad to see you.

  1. Warm-up

Dear children, I hope than you are in a good mood today, but you can evaluate your mood yourself.

Draw a face according to your mood. The pictures with four faces help you. They are “OK”, “Bad”, “Good”, “So-so”.

Today we`re going to talk about the world of professions. You will do some lexical exercises to improve your speech.




  1. First of all let’s remember some words that will be necessary for you to do the

tasks in our today’s lesson.

To begin with, remember the names of jobs: look at the pictures on your notebooks.

IV. Speaking exercises.
Слайд 6 First of all, I`d like to remind you of the difference between the words: profession, job and occupation.

Profession – a job that needs a special education and training.

Study the combination: by profession/choose smth as a profession.


Name the examples: What is your mother by profession? Will you choose law as a profession? What profession will you choose? What professions do you know?
Job – the regular paid work that you do for an employer.

Study the expressions: get/find, take/accept, Saturday/summer/holiday job


Name the examples: Did you work a holiday job this summer? What is your father’s job? Why does he like his job? Are there any aspects of the job of a businessman?

Is it easy to get a job?
Occupation – a job or profession. What is your mother’s occupation?

Work – to do the job that you are paid for.
Name the examples: work for the company/work as a secretary. What company does your father work for? Have you got any work experience? What do you know about the work of a lawyer?

Ok. Now ask each other in a chain. What would you like to be?

I think it is necessary to choose your profession according to one’s character and taste.

  1. There are a lot of interesting and useful professions. I am going to become

a teacher. I suppose my future profession to be one of the most important nowadays.

To teach and to bring up children is the most important and noble thing, to my mind. I am eager to get the proper education to be able to do my best to teach my future pupils my favourite subject. I'll try not only to help them to master it. I'll try to help them to become good and clever people, to be honest, kind and noble.

Children are our future and I want them to be really good and educated people. Of course, the profession of a teacher is not an easy one. It demands a lot of knowledge, a lot of tenderness of feeling and sometimes a lot of patience. But I hope, that I'll be a good teacher and that my pupils will like me and my subject.


  1. There are many interesting and noble professions. I want to become a doctor.

I like this profession and I am eager to get a medical education and work at a hospital. It is a good tradition in our family. My mother is a doctor, and I want to be a doctor, too.

Day by day she takes care of her hospital patients, she treats them well. She is very attentive. Every day she comes into wards asking patients, "What do you complain of?" She wants all people to be able-bodied and she tries to treat her in-patients in a proper way. Sometimes she advises her in-patients to go to sanatoriums after leaving the hospital.

My mother tells me a lot of true stories about doctors, their profession, and their aid for people. I respect my mother. I like her profession and I have a dream to be a doctor too.
3. There are a lot of different trades and professions, and each one must choose the occupation in which he or she can best develop one's own talent and abilities. Our society needs well-educated people. Nowadays the profession of an economist has become one the most useful, modern and interesting.

An economist exercises different functions. He or she can determine the structure of an enterprise and calculate costs as well as probable profits. An economist analyses the condition of the market and prospects for its development in the future. His or her practical use of electronic computers is a must. The activities of an economist at an enterprise range from bookkeeper control the financial state of an enterprise and perform a lot of useful calculations. A manager is an actual administrator. Having a good command of the economic situation in the region and the demands of the market a person with an economist's diploma may establish his own business, or he may become a partner of a joint venture. It is very important for an economist to know a foreign language, especially English.

But to become a good economist one must work hard and get not only theoretical knowledge but also great practical skills
4. I want to be a Businessman. My uncle is working for an international company as a managing director in Kazakhstan. I went to his office in summer. I liked it very much.

My uncle is very busy. He often comes at half past seven in the evening. But I can see that he likes his job.

Sometimes he tells us about the situations, and it is so interesting to listen to him.

My uncle is friendly and kind. I respect my uncle Timur and I want to become a businessman too. I think our country needs good people.

I'm going to enter the University and study management.
5. I want to be an Interpreter. It is an interesting and useful profession.

My parents have a large library and I like books. I like reading scary stories.

My favourite subjects at school are English, Literature, and History.

Once at the lesson of Literature, our teacher told us that poems are very hard to translate. From that day I have a dream. I want to have my favourite books in the original and to know the languages they are written in.

I also like reading books about other countries and cultures.

I want to become an interpreter because of some reasons. It is an interesting profession because an interpreter meets people from different countries and cultures.

Besides, this profession is very useful because it helps people to understand each other.

The top paying professions are accountant, dentist and IT specialist.

Listen to the three persons describing their professions:



  • Guess which of them is a dentist, which one is an accountant and which one is an IT specialist. (listening for the main idea)

  • What qualities and skills do they name? (listening for specific information and note taking)

The first person is an accountant. The 2-nd one is a dentist and the 3-d one is an IT specialist.

  • What skills are necessary for these jobs?

  2. The job of dentist requires team-working skills, skills in problem solving, communication skills, IT skills, patience skills. A dentist should be self-confidence, self-motivated, likes his hands…
